Job Description Overview We are seeking an Accounting Product Manager to lead our efforts to expand our global financial accounting functionality. Calypso today provides financial accounting functionality for the full processing life cycle of the various capital markets products supported by Calypso. We are looking for someone to provide leadership in the further development of this key functionality, ensuring that Calypso adheres to the many FAS and IAS accounting rules, and provides effective, controlled, multi-currency financial accounting for both sell-side and buy-side organizations. This position could be based in any of Calypso’s offices, but would be best in either New York or Paris. Some travel will be required, mainly between New York, Paris and San Francisco, but also to other Calypso/client locations. The position requires someone with a strong motivation and desire to work in a challenging but rewarding environment, strong knowledge and experience in the Capital Markets, and a thorough, in-depth understanding of the accounting issues and challenges faced by large buy-side and sell-side financial services organizations. This is an outstanding opportunity for a talented accountant to make a substantial and highly visible contribution to the Calypso software product. Responsibilities Some/all of the following: - Provide leadership in all aspects of the furtherance of Calypso’s financial accounting functionality
- Keep current with FAS and IAS accounting rules, and interpret these into practical functional requirements.
- Provide leadership and direction to Calypso’s business analysts and engineers in all aspects of multi-currency financial accounting
- Create detailed functional specifications for accounting enhancements, including test cases, as needed
- Participate in workshops with clients, potential clients and/or Calypso staff to discuss financial accounting requirements and identify needed enhancements
- Iteratively test developed software, to ensure that business requirements are met.
- Create ‘user guide’ documentation
- Configure system prior to client testing and implementation.
- Provide product presentations/demonstrations to current and potential clients
Skills & Requirements: Some/all of the following (we recognize that few individuals possess all of this skill/experience): - B.S. or Master’s in Business/Finance
- CPA, CA or equivalent accounting qualification
- In-depth understanding of the capital markets, the products traded (including IRD, CRD, FX, Securities, etc.), and the related accounting life-cycle for both trading and investment account activity
- Familiarity with FAS and IAS accounting rules, including FAS52, FAS91, FAS115, FAS133, FAS140, FAS157, FAS159, IAS39
- Familiarity with ‘Fund Accounting’ requirements (preferred)
- Familiarity with the issues and requirements for balance sheet and income statement inter company consolidations and eliminations
- Understanding of the interplay between management and financial accounting
- 10 years (or more) experience working at an investment or commercial bank, broker, hedge fund, software vendor or consulting company in connection with financial accounting for capital markets activity
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Good oral and written communication skills (essential)
- Must be a fast learner, self-motivated, a team player, able to work independently and collaboratively
- Strong problem solving skills
