Responsibilities

Responsible for the day to day legal support for all areas of the Mortgage Insurance (MI) and Lifestyel Protection (LP) business in Spain and Portugal including client relationships, audit teams, operations, sourcing, IT and e-commerce.

This role will predominantly focus on supporting the MI business in Spain.

Direct line management of existing legal team in Spain and Portugal
Ensuring effective co-ordination of legal and compliance activities in the Region
Working closely with sales teams in these countries in the development of new business and client relationships
Working with Genworth Europe’s compliance team to devise and implement Genworth Europe’s compliance management framework
Driving business compliance with applicable European and national legal and regulatory requirements
Acting as business liaison with local regulators and keeping business informed of regulatory changes
Working closely with the business leaders for the MI and LP businesses in the Region who have P&L accountability
Managing external counsel as necessary

Education & Experience

Qualified lawyer in Spain or Portugal with extensive legal experience in either mortgage, banking or insurance sectors
Experience in commercial negotiations
Experience in managing external lawyers in a number of jurisdictions
Experienced line manager
Ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal) in English and Spanish
Proven drafting and negotiation skills
Strong organisational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
High energy levels and works well under pressure to meet deadlines
Ability to effectively communicate with senior management
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively
Self starter with ability to work remotely from rest of Legal team
Degree of commercial acumen and influence with persuasive skills necessary to lead in a cross functional environment
